Pregnant?!(2009, 40min)

Mamoru Iriguchi: Concept, Design, Performance

supported by Camden People’s Theatre, Battersea Arts Centre

Brief description:

A multimedia solo performance piece. It starts as a powerpoint presentation by a cross-dressed pseudo-pregnant bearded male. Soon afterwards, however, the images sneak out of the projection screen and fill the space. Solely lit by three video projectors producing animated surreal landscapes, PREGNANT?! is a piece about ‘family’ in its broadest sense and traces Mamoru’s epic journey on overly intimate relationships with those closest to him in and around his imaginary womb.

Review Extracts:

"... So begins a beautifully surreal journey through the landscapes of worry, childhood memory, fairytale and complicated psychology " (**** Peter Clawley, The Irish Times)

“Spanning 10,000 years, the piece tunnels into the darkest recesses of the human body to toy with expectations of space and time, gender and biology, birth and death.” (***** JJ Harrison, Irish Theatre Magazine)
